Sure, why not? Halo Infinite has launched in open beta mode (Nov. 16, 2021) and will officially release on Dec. 8, 2021. The game is the sixth in the Halo series that started with Halo: Combat Evolved released on Nov. 15, 2001, which happens to be the same day as the ‘Infinite’ open beta launch.

That was 20 years ago. As games evolve so do the processing demands that go with higher resolution, levels of interaction, and increased framerates. It’s suggested to play Halo Infinite on a Series X, Series S or older Xbox One if you can. But if you’re a PC gamer, not any old Windows box will do.

We’ve outlined the minimum and recommended specs found in the 343 Industries graphic below. Of course, you can always shoot for the stars and go for the “Ultra” setup to maximize the experience. The more powerful your system the better the framerate and response.

Halo Infinite PC Requirements

Minimum Requirements (or greater):

  • OS: Windows 10 RS5 x64 (Oct. 2018 update)
  • CPU: AMD 5 1600 or Intel i5-4440

  • VRAM: 4GB+
  • RAM: 8GB+
  • Storage: 50GB (30GB for just multiplayer)

Recommended (or greater):

  • OS: Windows 10 19H2 x64 (Nov. 2019 update)
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X or Intel i7-9700K
  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT or NVIDIA RTX 2070

What is the Legacy of the Xbox One? https://gameverse.com/2020/07/23/xbox-one-legacy-explained/ https://gameverse.com/2020/07/23/xbox-one-legacy-explained/#respond Thu, 23 Jul 2020 14:51:18 +0000 https://gameverse.com/?p=6217 Xbox One

Microsoft has made it clear that the launch of the Xbox Series X will not mean the immediate death of the Xbox One. In fact, Microsoft will not produce true Xbox Series X exclusives for at least a couple of years.

Still, the release of any next-gen console gives us cause to look back on what came before. So join us as we take a look at the legacy of the Xbox One in order to try to better understand how Microsoft’s gaming console will be remembered.

The Xbox One Will Be Remembered for Its Disastrous Debut

Few consoles in recent memory have proven the truth of the old saying “You only get one chance at first impressions” quite like the Xbox One.

When Microsoft properly debuted the Xbox One, they talked about a console that was expensive, burdened by controversial features at least a decade ahead of their time, and a high price tag. Sony presented the PlayStation 4 as a console you wanted in your life. Microsoft talked about the Xbox One like it was a drill sergeant that would force you to get your **** together.

Had the Xbox One grown into the console Microsoft tried to force it to be at the start, things could have been different. Instead, Microsoft spent too much time listening to soothsayers who foretold the coming of a new age of gaming and less time listening to common sense.

The Xbox One Will Not be Remembered For Its Games

Obviously, all discussions of console wars and similar topics are subject to often extreme levels of subjectivity. However, we think that you’re going to have a hard time arguing that the Xbox One had better exclusives than the PlayStation 4.

It’s tempting to boil the problems of the Xbox One’s library down to its lack of a killer app. To be fair, there’s some truth to that. Franchise mainstays like Gears of War and Halo failed to truly impress with their Xbox One exclusive installments, and new series (such as Sunset Overdrive) failed to quite “get there” despite their relative quality. Even “gimme” games like Halo: The Master Chief Collection were plagued by issues.

Yet, the biggest problem with the Xbox One X’ game library is its best titles either fail to inspire more than a select group of gamers (such as Forza Horizon 4) or are available elsewhere on platforms which may be a better fit for them (such as Cuphead on Nintendo Switch).

The Xbox One Will Be Microsoft’s PlayStation 3

The PlayStation 2 is more than the best-selling video game console of all-time. It was a triumphant hardware success that was bolstered by an incredible library of diverse software. Sony’s follow-up, the PlayStation 3, was less of a success. In fact, it left many shrugging their shoulder wondering how a company atop the world released something so unsubstantial.

It’s a similar story for Microsoft and the Xbox One. The Xbox 360 nearly upset the dynamic of the entire industry with its revolutionary features, incredible game library, and stellar online service. It’s arguably one of the greatest consoles ever.

The Xbox One, meanwhile, just fell flat. It wasn’t a bad console in the ways that matter most, but its generally “meh” nature felt so out of place for a console manufacturer that was seemingly at the top of its game.

The Xbox One Will Be Associated With The Start of Game Pass

It’s funny. Even though the Xbox One isn’t especially notable for many individual games, its best feature may be a service that offers you many of those games.

One way or another, cloud gaming and video game “streaming” will be a big part of the industry. Microsoft combines those concepts in Game Pass: a collection of game accessed via a monthly service fee which you download and access as you go.

No other company has been able to match Game Pass’ combination of collection, technology, and price. It’s the most practical example yet of how the future of gaming may not involve paying $60+ for every title that comes out.

The Xbox One Will Be Praised for Backward Compatibility, Cross-Play, and other Consumer-Friendly Features

Given that the Xbox One started as a relatively consumer-unfriendly console, we understand if you’re shocked to learn that the Xbox One eventually became the gold standard for consumer-friendly features.

In recent years, Microsoft has pushed for the preservation of true, hardware-enabled backward compatibility as well as the advancement of cross-play technology which allows all gamers to play together regardless of which console they own. They’ve also pushed for the development of more accessible hardware which allows a greater variety of gamers to play the games they love.

Our sincere hope is that Microsoft continues to push for inclusivity and consumer innovation in the future. They’ve already forced rival companies to keep up with their progress thus far.

Game Pass Grows, Game Ownership Withers – Who Will Own Your Game Library? https://gameverse.com/2019/11/15/game-pass-grows-game-ownership-withers-who-will-own-your-game-library/ https://gameverse.com/2019/11/15/game-pass-grows-game-ownership-withers-who-will-own-your-game-library/#respond Fri, 15 Nov 2019 09:31:10 +0000 https://gameverse.com/?p=5053 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTveV4Yfh2I

Microsoft’s X019 conference was quite the show as they announced numerous new games and new additions to the Xbox and Game Pass. The massive announcement included games like Wasteland 3, Ori and the Will of the Wisp, Halo Reach, Witcher 3, Carrion, Rage 2, Flight Simulator, several Final Fantasy games, and even some of the recent Yakuza games. While there are some differences between the console version and the PC (Beta) version, both are set to provide access to many recent and future launch-day releases.

On top of that, they announced Black Friday discounts that include knocking $150 off the Xbox One X and $100 off the One S bundles. That brings the all-digital version of the console down to $150 – which is, of course, a prime candidate for this enticing Game Pass expansion. They’re even offering three months of the Ultimate service for $1. These deals are all on top of game discounts and other typical deals you’ll see for the ever-growing consumer holiday.

There isn’t much debating the value Microsoft is bringing to the table today. It’s undeniably a great way to expand your gaming catalog and try games that may have otherwise been out of your reach. The question people seem to be glossing over is, why is Microsoft working so hard to get you on this subscription service? The obvious answer for anyone aware of Sony’s success is that they want to pick up more of the market share that the PlayStation 4 has consumed selling more than 102 million units. However, there’s another longer-term goal being addressed with this move.

Xbox Deals

Console developers have been trying to get rid of physical media for a long time. The manufacturing and shipping cost savings alone would be notable, but a significant part has always been eliminating the reselling of media. Gamestop has thrived on this market for many years now and both console manufacturers and game publishers don’t see a penny of that trade-in cash. At one point, the idea of “online passes” was attempted with some major backlash, which ultimately ended the practice. These companies were not about to give up on the issue though.

With subscription services providing great value for access to new and old games, the digital media transition has finally started gaining ground. Consoles like the All-Digital Xbox One S are now not only viable but a solid choice given it’s $50 discount. The nature of subscriptions means that, even in countries where owning a game license is the equivalent of owning physical media, you won’t ever actually own these games. You will only have access via a subscription. Without ownership, you can’t trade-in or resell a game and people that want to own a copy will either have to buy one new or get their subscription.

Every new person that subscribes to Game Pass may cause Microsoft and game publishers to lose some revenue upfront, but they gain all of the potential customers that would buy used physical copies down the line. While this whole process may not sound horrible to you as a savvy consumer, it has other effects. For instance, GameStop, who is in an ongoing battle with a steady downfall in stock price since 2015, will take an even harder hit. Many may not miss GameStop much, but they do provide local jobs, which is something digital games can’t do. There’s also the potential for these services, once ubiquitous, to finally make the change to remove physical media without the protest that it once caused. The price is great right now (the cost of two AAA games a year), but without other options, price increases may be inevitable.

It’s hard to say, at this point, whether all of this may play out exactly as I’ve described here. It has been confirmed that Project Scarlett and the PlayStation 5 will have physical media, so that’s a good sign that at least the next generation will maintain the status quo. It just doesn’t seem remotely plausible to me that the motive for Microsoft and other companies pushing these services is just for the “good of consumers.” They exist as publicly traded companies to make money and will do what it takes to make that happen as effectively as possible. A future where they sell a piece of hardware and lease a subscription service is one where they control the entire financial stream.

The app lets Xbox Live users interact with others similar to the Reddit.com experience, and unlock media achievements named after popular Internet memes. The app is available to Xbox Live members in the US and Canada, who can customize their home page, view text, images, animated GIFS, and video, and view all subreddits from the platform. Of course, the ReddX app allows what is quintessentially the core appeal of Reddit — which is to let users vote content UP or DOWN. Users can also add comments using the Xbox One controller, media remote or Xbox SmartGlass on PCs, tablets and phones, enlarge images for closing viewing, and save images to their profile or ReddX app background image. This week the MTV app and an updated Twitch app are also releasing for the Xbox One.

Xbox One update Focuses on Social Features https://gameverse.com/2014/07/18/xbox-one-update-focuses-on-social-features/ https://gameverse.com/2014/07/18/xbox-one-update-focuses-on-social-features/#respond Fri, 18 Jul 2014 21:20:24 +0000 https://gameverse.com/?p=3681 xbox-one-august-2014-update-screen2The upcoming update for Xbox One will focus on social features, but also includes other additions that were suggested by fan feedback. The biggest updates may come in the Activity Feed, which will be a single long scroll with more content than the current scroll. The Activity feed update will allow you to add text, like and dislike content, share gaming clips, and view others’ content via SmartGlass.

There’s also an expanded Friends area on Home, with trending games and leaderboard to stay up-to-date with your friends scores. There’s also a last seen time on Friends list so you be able to see what games your friends played last.

Other updates include support for Blu-ray 3D with the Xbox One Blu-ray player app, the ability to disable notifications (a fan-requested feature), low battery notification for the Xbox One controller, and live TV listings via OneGuide expanded to Brazil, Mexico, Austria and Ireland.

Those Xbox One owners with early access will get the updates first, while the update will roll out to all consoles starting in August.

Xbox One August 2014 System Update Details:

  • Activity feed updates: We’re adding new ways for you to interact with friends in the activity feed.  The interface will change to a single column scrolling list that is longer and includes more content. We’ll add the ability to post text to your feed, and to “like” and comment on feed items. You can share game clips and anything else in the feed with friends either publically (to your activity feed) or privately (as an attachment to a message). You’ll also be notified when anyone likes, comments on or shares your items. Each user will get a personal feed on their profile, so you can see what specific friends have been up to. And, with SmartGlass, you can see what your friends have shared to their activity feed and “like” specific posts (additional activity feed support coming in future SmartGlass updates).
  • Expanded Friends area on Home: Right from Home, see what’s going on with your friends. Stay up-to-date with their current activity, the top trending games your friends are playing, and a leaderboard to see who has been working the hardest on their Gamerscore. We’re doing an extended preview on this, rolling it into the early access preview this month to a subset of our preview audience so we can refine it until it’s ready for the entire Xbox One market.
  • Mobile purchase: One of the most requested features on Xbox Feedback. Using Xbox SmartGlass or on Xbox.com, you can remotely purchase games and Add-on content. No more waiting to begin downloading when you get home – if your console is set to automatically take updates, your console will begin downloading your purchase.
  • Low battery notification: You asked for it, now a notification will pop up when your controller battery is getting low.
  • Disable notifications during video: Adding the ability to turn off notifications based feedback we heard from you.
  • Enabling 3D Blu-ray: An update to the Blu-ray player app will enable 3D Blu-ray functionality on Xbox One.
  • OneGuide in Brazil, Mexico, Austria and Ireland: Live TV listings can be configured for four new countries as part of this month’s Preview program. And now there is an OneGuide Issue Reporter available under the TV & OneGuide settings, Troubleshooting section.
  • Last seen time in Friends list: Direct from Xbox Feedback, the friends list will now show how long it’s been since a friend has been online. For example, “Last seen 20m ago: Forza Motorsport 5.”

To get the price down, (which Microsoft hopes will help compete with the $399 PlayStation 4), Microsoft has taken out the bundled Kinect sensor for gestures and voice commands. The Kinect will, of course, be available separately for the Xbox One.

Microsoft has good reason to offer a lower priced Xbox One system. Sony’s PS4 (also released in Nov., 2013) has sold about 2 million more units than the Xbox One, even with the help of the exclusive title Titanfall which analysts said could sell 6 million copies by the end of 2014.

Microsoft also announced that Xbox Live members will no longer need a Gold membership to access entertainment apps such as Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, Hulu Plus, Twitch, Machinima, ESPN, MLB.tv, and others among the available choices at the Microsoft store.

The long, two-minute and 4-second trailer gives you lots of juicy details about the game, and might we say, it looks pretty darn good! Thief will be available for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Windows PCs starting Friday, Feb. 28, 2014. The game is rated PEGI 16.

Description:

Garrett, the Master Thief, steps out of the shadows into the City. In this treacherous place, where the Baron’s Watch spreads a rising tide of fear and oppression, his skills are the only things he can trust. Even the most cautious citizens and their best- guarded possessions are not safe from his reach.

As an uprising emerges, Garrett finds himself entangled in growing layers of conflict. Lead by Orion, the voice of the people, the tyrannized citizens will do everything they can to claim back the City from the Baron’s grasp. The revolution is inevitable. If Garrett doesn’t get involved, the streets will run red with blood and the City will tear itself apart.

Xbox employees get white Xbox One design, jealous? https://gameverse.com/2013/12/04/xbox-employees-get-white-xbox-one-design-jealous/ https://gameverse.com/2013/12/04/xbox-employees-get-white-xbox-one-design-jealous/#respond Wed, 04 Dec 2013 19:30:43 +0000 https://gameverse.com/?p=3517 xbox-one-white-controller-kinect

Microsoft employees were given a special white edition of the Xbox One, a limited edition design apparently reserved only those working on the Xbox One product launch. An employee has posted quite a few photos of the white Xbox One, but clarifies he had nothing to do with the design. If you look closely, you’ll see an “I MADE THIS” label on the front of the box, underscored by “Launch Team 2013.” The white design is much slicker than one might have expected, and the white case is nicely incorporated with some of the Xbox One’s black elements such as the disc tray and side grill. The Xbox One Controller also looks really nice with the outer grip in flat white finish. Needless to say, we’re pretty jealous. But if you’re truly in love you might be able to pick a white Xbox One on eBay, currently listed for about $1900 by sellers who somehow acquired the limited edition.

This morning Microsoft announced the official release date for the Xbox One will be Friday, Nov. 22, 2013. As well as in the US, the ‘One’ will also launch in 12 other markets including Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, and the UK. Microsoft also promised the Xbox One will ship to additional markets in 2014.

In addition to the release date, the Xbox team also announced a 10-percent improvement to the console’s CPU, with an upgrade from 1.6GHZ to 1.75GHZ. This is in addition to the recently announced 6% increase for the GPU.

Xbox’s Corporate Vice President of Marketing Yusuf Mehdi said in his blog post, “We are humbled and gratified by the tremendous interest in Xbox One from game fans everywhere.”

Additional consoles have also been made available in limited quantities to pre-order from the Microsoft Store or participating retailers such as Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, and Target.
